• A Supply Chain Hero: Edgar Perez Champions Innovation and Efficiency at Safran Electrical and Power ISA

  • Our Supply Chain Heroes program recognizes and celebrates the hard work of LeanDNA customers who optimize inventory, reduce shortages, and empower their companies to operate more efficiently. Every hero has a story, and we’re here to tell them.

In the rapidly evolving world of supply chain management, the heroes who drive change and champion innovation often work behind the scenes, quietly transforming challenges into opportunities. Meet Edgar Perez, Engineering 4.0 Manager at Safran Electrical & Power ISA (SEP). His dedication to digital transformation and his strategic approach to inventory management have not only optimized SEP’s processes but also set a new standard for excellence in the industry.

    Tackling Challenges with Innovative Solutions

Before the implementation of LeanDNA, Edgar and his team faced challenges in inventory management. They were caught in a cycle of having too much inventory while also dealing with critical shortages. "We had an unclear idea of inventory opportunities," Edgar explains. "Our previous efforts, which included using Excel Macros and Dashboards for analysis, were effective to a certain degree but they wouldn’t help us push further on actual opportunities."

Edgar's search for a more intelligent solution led him to LeanDNA. The solution has been instrumental in integrating results into SEP’s processes, enabling the team to execute opportunities seamlessly.

"We are expecting to integrate LeanDNA results in our process to execute as many opportunities as possible without making it a complex process." -Edgar Perez, Engineering 4.0 Manager at Safran Electrical and Power

The impact of Edgar’s efforts on SEP’s operations has been significant. With the help of LeanDNA, SEP is on track to achieve inventory reductions through smarter purchasing, intercompany sales, and improved communication with suppliers. These strategies are not just about cutting costs but also about aligning material shortages and LOB processes with LeanDNA’s capabilities.

"Everyone is embracing change, digitalization, and automation. It’s a big challenge for sure, but we are on the same boat." -Edgar Perez, Engineering 4.0 Manager at Safran Electrical and Power

This collective effort has fostered a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.

    A Collaborative Effort

In his role to drive the digital transformation in the Supply Chain organization at SEP, Edgar has been an enthusiastic champion of innovation and new technology. He understands that LeanDNA has the analytics capability and standardization that SEP can benefit from. Since he became the point of contact for SEP, LeanDNA adoption has taken off. The Procurement and Production teams at SEP have a much better understanding of LeanDNA's benefits for SEP in their daily shortage management and inventory optimization.

Edgar’s success is a testament to the power of collaboration and support from his colleagues. Fernando Medina, Edgar's manager, alongside Ricardo Varela (EVP of SEP ISA) and Enrique Badillo (Director of Supply Chain Management), have been pivotal in supporting Edgar’s initiatives. Their collective vision for digital transformation has been crucial in driving the adoption of LeanDNA across SEP.

    A Tip from the Hero

We like to ask every Supply Chain Hero the same question. What is the most valuable thing you have learned that you would want to share with other supply chain professionals? He emphasizes the importance of questioning existing processes and being open to new technologies.

"Sometimes we need to ask ourselves, why am I doing this the way I’m doing it? That would apply to not only Supply Chain but also every area or task we do, it should drive change or improvement if there is room for it.” -Edgar Perez, Engineering 4.0 Manager at Safran Electrical and Power

He encourages businesses to embrace modern tools and technologies to overcome common challenges and achieve better outcomes. "Give new technologies a shot. In most cases, they already perform the job we are expecting them to perform," he suggests. "Be open to new processes, reports, dashboards, methods, etc. You might find a much better, faster, and cleaner way to complete day-to-day tasks."

    What’s Next

As Edgar and his team continue to innovate, the future looks promising for SEP. The integration of LeanDNA’s actionable insights and improved collaboration tools has set SEP on a path toward sustained success. The next six months are poised to bring about further inventory reductions and enhanced supply chain efficiency, reinforcing SEP’s position as a leader in the industry.

Edgar Perez's story is a celebration of what can be achieved when innovation meets determination. His journey is a powerful reminder that with the right tools and a collaborative spirit, any challenge can be transformed into an opportunity for excellence.
